Job Title Special Program Aid (Nurse Practitioner) Agency Texas A&M International University Department Student Health Services Proposed Minimum Salary $58.00 hourly Job Location Laredo, Texas Job Type Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description Job Summary The Special Program Aid (Nurse Practitioner) under general direction, provides patient care, evaluations, and treatment. Diagnoses, treats, and prescribe certain medications for illnesses and injuries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provides direct patient care, assessments, counseling, preparation, and treatment.
- Documents patient care.
- Prescribes medicines upon diagnoses of illness or injury, under the direction of a physician and within the limitations of Nurse Practitioner regulations.
- Maintains and monitors patient records, assesses health care needs, and provides patient education.
- Interprets lab and/or x-ray results.
- Performs follow-up care in conjunction with other nursing staff.
- Serves on committees, providing presentations and participating in divisional staff development.
- Provide comprehensive women's health services, including performing Pap smears, conducting reproductive and sexual health assessments, diagnosing and managing gynecologic conditions, and delivering patient-centered education on contraception, STI prevention, and overall sexual wellness.
- Provide sexual health education and comprehensive STI screening and testing, including risk assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and patient counseling on prevention and safe practices.
- In an emergency, will provide care to stabilize or prevent deterioration of a patient's condition and immediately thereafter notify the supervising physician.
- Immediate physician consultation or referral for acute health problems of complex nature identified by NP
- Monthly quality assurance review with supervising physician to discuss information related to patient care and treatment, changes in patient care plans, issues related to referrals, and discussion of patient care improvements.
- Education: Master's degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: One year of related experience.
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Knowledge of standard nursing procedures and techniques.
- Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
- Position requires keeping a work schedule of 8 hours weekly.
- Position requires face-to-face interactions on campus.
- Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
