Job Summary
In alignment with community engagement values and to support student success, Thayne Center for Student Life, Leadership, & Community Engagement provides basic needs resources. Bruin Pantry Peer Specialists support the Bruin Pantry network by assisting general operations. Through the Bruin Pantry network, SLCC distributes a variety of foods and hygiene products to students, faculty, and staff at the college. Our team of staff and student leaders receives, processes, and distributes these goods equitably and efficiently while clearly communicating pantry policies and other relevant information. Bruin Pantry Specialists supports inventory relocation to satellite pantries, takes inventory of food stock, purchases or rescues food from local stores and/or organizations, and assesses coverage at pantry locations. Success of this role is measured by well-stocked and equitably distributed resources available to visitors during distribution hours.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

- Ability to communicate effectively and work with a broad range of people various backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

- Good Oral/written communication skills including in person, meetings, emails, and phone calls.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and other telecommunication platforms.?
- Tracking expenses and following a budget.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly.
- Strong decision-making, problem solving, and collaborative partnership skills.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Document and address performance issues for student peer leaders.
- Experience with or interest in one or more of the following:
- Nutrition, Healthy Eating, Food Systems, Sustainability, Public Health, Non-Profit Administration
- Social/Behavioral Sciences including Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work, etc.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Transport food supplements across the pantry network. This position requires driving to multiple campuses and may require starting the day at varying campus locations. If possible, use provided departmental vehicles including Large Capacity Passenger Vehicle.
- Regularly organize back stock to ensure space is available for new inventory.
- Report inventory at assigned pantry location weekly and plan restocking strategies with supervisor and pantry staff. (Taylorsville Redwood, South City, West Valley Center, Jordan, and/or Herriman Campus).
- Independently order and purchase food supplements and deliver items to keep shelves stocked throughout each week.
- Lift 50lbs and make repetitive movements
Pantry Operations
- Ensure pantries follow Utah Food Bank and community partners operational standards.
- Assisting overseeing the daily operations of pantry locations, including maintaining a clean and organized pantry space
- Exhibit positive customer service and relationship building when interacting with pantry patrons
- Assist in communication with peer leaders for events, pantry updates, and hours.
- Organize tasks for student leaders working in the pantry.
Organizational Leadership
- Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings with pantry staff, supervisor and Thayne Center staff in person.
- Help support Thayne Center all-hands-on-deck events
- Obtain purchasing card and uphold responsibilities outlined in the cardholder agreement and purchasing card training.
- Obtain a Large Capacity Vehicle training certificate through SLCC Motor Pool
- Ethical budget reporting is expected.
- Occasionally create marketing materials in Canva
- Must be able to work 26-29 hours per week.
- Must be able to work during the following shifts: Monday 10am-4:30pm, Tuesday 8am-4:30pm, Wednesday 10am-4:30pm &Thursday 10am-4:30pm
- Ability to uphold authorization responsibilities outlined by motor pool and SLCC's Risk Management Agreement.
Other Duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years old due to requirements for operating departmental vehicles and insurance policies.
- Valid UT drivers license
- Has reliable transportation

- Ability to speak more than one language
- Flexible schedule
- Experience working in a retail or office setting
- Interest or experience in food insecurity, food access, or basic needs
