Offer Description
[Background of the recruitment and description of the project]
The Center for Infectious Disease Education and Research (CiDER) serves as a research hub dedicated to advancing infectious disease studies through interdisciplinary promotion, talent development and public engagement. Our goal is to contribute to effective infectious disease countermeasures.
The newly established Cryo-EM and Bacterial Pathogenesis Unit (Principal Investigator: Shoichi Tachiyama), within the Pathogen Recognition Research Team (Team Leader: Dr. Gabriel Nuñez) of the CiDER Division of Infectious Diseases and Immune Defense, will conduct research aimed at elucidating how bacterial nanomachines function at the host-pathogen interaction sites at the molecular and atomic levels. We are seeking to recruit a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor to advance the research activities of this unit.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research primarily focused on protein structural analysis using single-particle cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), whilst also taking on responsibilities for student supervision and aspects of laboratory management. In particular, we are seeking an individual who is eager to engage in structural and functional analysis of secretion systems in pathogenic bacteria and who can actively promote collaborative research both within and outside the university.
