Offer Description
Spin electronics (spintronics) is a field of research whose most recent advances hold the potential for a paradigm shift towards more frugal digital technologies. The French community is at the top international level in spintronics research. It is currently structured within the SPIN exploratory PEPR, whose main objective is to push back the frontiers of knowledge and prepare a new cycle of innovations that take into account digital frugality upstream, in the fields of computing, the Internet of Things, reprogrammable logic and intelligent sensors. In a highly competitive international context, the SPIN Junior Professor Chair aims to contribute to the scientific resourcing of the fundamental physics component of the PEPR SPIN by recruiting a talent in an internationally recognized laboratory in the field of spintronics. The research project will have to draw fully on the specific features of the host laboratory, with the dual aim of advancing knowledge - the primary mission of the CNRS - and contributing to the emergence of new applicative concepts.
The three laboratories likely to host the laureate of the SPIN Junior Professor Chair are at the top of the international scene in the field of spintronics and its interfaces. In alphabetical order, they are the Institut Jean Lamour in Nancy, in particular the “Spintronique et Nanomagnétisme” research team https://ijl.univ-lorraine.fr/equipes/equipe-spintronique-et-nanomagnetisme-spin, the Albert Fert Laboratory in Palaiseau https://laboratoire-albert-fert.cnrs-thales.fr/, and the Spintec Laboratory in Grenoble https://www.spintec.fr/. Each laboratory has its own specific features, which candidates can draw on to build their research program. It is strongly recommended to contact the prospective host laboratory as soon as the call for applications is published.
Candidates will propose a research project fully in line with one of the three host laboratories: Institut Jean Lamour in Nancy, Laboratoire Albert Fert in Palaiseau, and Spintec in Grenoble. The research project, whether experimental or theoretical, must be convincing in its originality and its ability to go beyond the state of the art. It should be in the field of spintronics, but could also be at the interface between spintronics and other fields of condensed matter physics, such as superconductivity, light-matter interaction, innovative low-dimensional materials, and quantum physics, without being exhaustive.
Candidates will propose a teaching project (28 hours of lectures or 42 hours of practical work or tutorials) in line with the theme of the SPIN Junior Professor Chair. This teaching project will then be discussed and finalized with the university supervising the host laboratory.
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
