Offer Description
Seeking exceptionally qualified candidates to carry out a computational modelling project to study neural mechanisms of internal state basis of motivation and novelty seeking.
This project investigates the computational mechanisms by which the mammalian brain implements and regulates epistemic need, the intrinsic drive to explore and learn from novel experiences. The project will formalize Hippocampal-VTA loop as a computational framework in which epistemic drive emerges from internal state regulation rather than externally defined reward.
The research will develop a hippocampal model capable of producing place-cell-like activity and will analyze novelty signals at both global and local scales within this model. Modelling be at least in part based on the homeostatically regulated reinforcement learning framework and link the hippocampal model with dopaminergic circuitry that regulates motivated action generation. The project will be conducted at the Group for Neural Theory at ENS Paris under the supervision of Dr. Boris Gutkin, whose expertise in dopaminergic circuits and computational neuroscience provides the ideal environment for grounding these models in experimentally testable predictions.
Candidate should have a doctoral degree in computational neuroscience or related quantitative field, and experience in research of interoceptive influence on motivation.
