Position Highlights

A successful candidate is responsible for the support of the College of Medicine-Phoenix clinical trial study accounts. This role will be responsible for working with faculty, departmental business office personnel, and our medical partners to address clinical trial accounts inquiries and support reporting. Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Trials Account Support

  • Perform day-to-day support for post-award clinical research budget, financial, operating, and reporting activities for clinical trial accounts under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Track grant revenue and expenses against project deadlines and sponsor terms, flagging discrepancies to senior staff for resolution.
  • Participate in monthly reporting reviews with appropriate personnel to verify accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Respond to routine inquiries regarding expenses and financial reporting; escalate non-routine issues to senior staff as appropriate.

Research Budget Management and Financial Support

  • Assist fiscal officers with the financial management of departmental clinical research accounts, including grants, contracts, and clinical trials following established procedures.
  • Support preparation of required, operational, and special budgets under the direction of senior staff.
  • Review research expenditures and financial reports for accuracy and coordinate with accounting staff to ensure expenses are recorded appropriately.
  • Refer irregular or unusual transactions to the Director or senior staff and assist with problem resolution as directed.

Compliance, Coordination, and Stakeholder Communication

  • Support adherence to Sponsor terms and conditions and applicable University, Federal, and State regulations by following established compliance procedures.
  • Coordinate with Sponsors, University personnel, Principal Investigators (PIs), and/or accountants under the guidance of senior staff to ensure relevant activities are completed timely and accurately.
  • Provide routine financial information and respond to standard budget-related questions from department staff, referring complex or sensitive matters to senior staff as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, principles and procedures. to include uniform guidance.
  • Skill in preparing detailed reports on a timely basis.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity with confidential information.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and in a professional manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field of study.
  • At least 1 year of higher education or government accounting and budgeting experience for research, including various fund types (recurring operating funds, gifts, grants and indirect cost revenue, auxiliary funds, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience managing grants, contracts and other research agreements.
