The Towson University Counseling Center seeks to fill a Staff Psychologist position. This position will provide a range of clinical and counseling services to college students and provide expertise, programming, and training in their coordinated area. The role includes involvement with our doctoral internship and externship training programs including serving as a clinical supervisor and providing training seminars.

We seek a psychologist who, in addition to having strong clinical skills and interest in providing training and a range of clinical services, will provide an innovative vision and administrative leadership in a coordinated area of expertise. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Psychological Services: Provides psychological services to students and consultation to faculty and staff on both a regular and emergency basis, and when necessary, during non-traditional hours, including, but not limited to crisis-intervention, assessment, counseling, treatment, and clinical consultation in individual and group formats; provides clinical consultation to students and their families, and to the campus in support of the mental health of the campus; collaborates in Counseling Center efforts to provide services in new and creative ways, including attending Clinical Consultation Team meetings; adheres to agency standards regarding case management, documentation, and parameters of service.
  • (Optional) Participation in Coordinated Area(s): Provides leadership in a designated area of coordination, including developing and implementing appropriate policies and procedures in the coordinated area, tracking utilization, evaluating programs and services, and serving as a psychoeducational and clinical resource to Counseling Center staff and to the campus; develops collaborations and liaisons as appropriate in the coordinated area on campus; if applicable, supervises graduate assistants, and develops and maintains peer educator programs within the coordinated area; maintains current standards, appropriate accreditations and program licensure for the coordinated area; contributes as requested to the overall leadership of the Counseling Center.
  • Training & Clinical Supervision: Contributes to the training of doctoral interns by conducting seminars and other training activities; participates in the range of activities necessary to maintain Counseling Center training programs; when assigned, supervises doctoral interns, externs, and/or unlicensed staff members in their provision of psychological services, in professional development, and in support of the Counseling Center training program.
  • Outreach and Consultation: Provides outreach programming as assigned, including psycho-education, health-education, and consultation in the Counseling Center Outreach Program, and assisting with recorded and online forms of programs and applications, including self-help resources, and Counseling Center web pages.
  • Center Operations and Administrative Participation: Engages in administrative functions that support the efficient operation of the Counseling Center. This includes attending and participating in weekly staff meetings (approximately 2 hours/week), engaging in administrative supervision, and contributing to agency planning, policy development, and staff coordination efforts as appropriate; maintains awareness of and adheres to agency procedures and operational protocols, ensuring alignment with the Center's mission and goals.
  • Student Affairs and University-Wide Participation: Participates in the Student Affairs Division and the University mission in a variety of ways, such as collaborating with other departments on campus, attending university functions, and serving on task forces and committees as assigned.

After-hours and weekend coverage may be required occasionally for campus emergencies, and for providing scheduled outreach programs and services.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least one semester of training or experience in a college or University Counseling Center or 4-5 months of experience in brief treatment & outreach-providing settings.
  • Doctoral Degree, currently licensed, or will be license eligible as a Psychologist in Maryland. All requirements for a doctoral degree must be met prior to the start date.
  • Full licensure as a Psychologist in Maryland is required prior to the end of the first full year in the position.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience working in a counseling center in a higher education setting.
