Position Summary
The Garr-Barry lab at WashU Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to join our team at the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences. Our lab's mission is to 1) conduct well-executed, objective, and impactful research on the effects of nutrient availability and metabolic inflexibility on pregnancy outcomes and postpartum cardiometabolic recovery; 2) perform culturally competent and respectful investigations of racial differences in cardiovascular and metabolic adaptation to pregnancy; and 3) use precision nutrition approaches to improve racial disparities in pregnancy outcomes and cardiometabolic recovery among patients with adverse pregnancy outcomes.
This position will be 70% scientific writing. Therefore, we welcome applicants that have a strong writing ability and an interest in integrating knowledge of maternal metabolism and placental physiology to perform translational research on fetal growth and development. A successful applicant will be a leader within the lab to drive the systematic process of disseminating the lab’s findings through manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and some grant writing.
Designs research protocols. Assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
- Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
- Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
- Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
- Conducts literature searches related to research project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
