Job Description
Standardized Patients (SPs) have the unique opportunity to be involved in shaping the medical education of tomorrow's physicians and other health care professionals. Standardized Patients simulate individuals in various medical, behavioral, and emotional scenarios. Each scenario or patient case is designed to meet the needs of the curriculum and associated learning objectives. Training will be provided. The majority of simulations are held in person on the OUHSC OKC campus. Work hours are flexible, mostly weekdays.
The number of hours will vary by assignment and programmatic needs. Those seeking regularly scheduled employment should note that this position would work occasionally and not consistently. This work is not weekly and would not compare favorably in total annual hours with regular part-time work. This position does not provide benefits. The ideal candidate is someone with strong communication skills that is looking for occasional work.
Duties
- Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities
- Simulate all aspects of a scripted scenario in a standardized accurate realistic manner
- Participate as the patient having a physical examination for students to practice their skills; this may include recalling and/or recreating the medical history, personality, emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient
- Provide constructive feedback to learners following a template
- Accept on-going constructive feedback regarding performance from the Standardized Patient Educator and Simulation Center Director and incorporating changes as needed
- Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way
- Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment
- Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, training materials, and assessment data
- Participate in encounters that will be recorded and reviewed by faculty, learners, and simulation center staff
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Required education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

- Ability to perform well under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language
- Excellent attention to detail
- Comfort performing and incorporating feedback during mock encounter training
- Willingness to be audio and video recorded and observed live while in simulation
- Proficiency with technology, including accessing the internet, navigating to websites, checking and replying to email, and working in the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to accurately recall case information
