Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a STEM Educator (Maths and Statistics) to join Learning and Teaching Unit, Education Portfolio, Academic Division.
The STEM Educator (Maths and Statistics) will provide timely and targeted services and strategies to support the STEM academic learning needs of QUT students. This includes contributing to peer programs, industry and career engagement, curriculum and resource development, learning analytics, and other university-wide initiatives. The STEM Educator (Maths and Statistics) will work in partnership with the SSTA Strategic Leads and Managers, STEM Educators, Career Educators, and Language and Learning Educators across the faculties to contribute to advance student success and teaching.

About the Learning and Teaching Unit The Learning and Teaching Unit (LTU) is committed to a culture of collaboration, working in partnership with students, industry representatives, and staff across QUT to meet the evolving needs of our learners. LTU leads and coordinates learning and teaching across QUT, leveraging existing initiatives and enabling new ways of thinking and working that are learner-centric and future-focused. The Student Success and Teaching Advancement (SSTA) teams work in partnership with faculties and divisions to deliver a connected and impactful student experience. This is achieved through the provision of university wide learning, careers and retention support services and strategies, and building an engaged community of innovative academic practice and learner focused educational delivery using scholarly and data informed approaches. SSTA is a large section within LTU employing more than 120 academic, professional and sessional staff, and student partners..
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or experience equivalent to completion of a degree in a discipline with a strong relevance to the learning and teaching of maths and statistics academic and learning practice and pedagogy (online and face-to-face) with subsequent relevant work experience.
- Expertise in maths and statistics at a university-level.
- Proven experience in promoting and teaching others to develop the strategies and techniques needed to engage effectively in mathematics and statistics support for learning in physical (face-to-face) and virtual environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues which affect mathematics and statistics learning, retention, and success in higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in close partnership with a diverse range of students and staff at all levels of an organisation with a commitment to working from a social justice framework.
- Proven effectiveness as a team member with a flexible approach in relation to change and responding to the shifting needs of the student population.
- Highly effective written, verbal, and digital communication skills including facilitation and presentation expertise and the ability to create high quality and engaging digital learning support resources.
