Position Time Status: Full-Time
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, communication, or a related field.
Required Related Experience: 3-years experience supporting instructional design, course development, online learning, learning management systems, educational technology, training development, or related academic support work.
Physical Requirements: Position requires prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, screen viewing, and repetitive motion related to keyboarding and mouse use. Occasional standing, walking, lifting or carrying light materials, and participation in meetings may be required.
Shift: 40 hours a week; Flexible, typically M-F 8am-5pm
Job Summary
There are two openings for the STEPS Instructional Designer (IDs). The IDs will:
- Develop and revise online and technology-enhanced courses in Canvas and approved instructional design tools.
- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to organize course content, learning objectives, assessments, rubrics, and learning activities.
- Apply ADDIE, TILT, Universal Design for Learning, accessibility standards, and Quality Matters-aligned practices.
- Follow all College templates, practices, standards, policies, and instructional design workflows.
- Create and update learning segments, embedded practice activities, assignments, course resources, and faculty support materials.
- Support quality assurance by reviewing courses for alignment, consistency, accessibility, usability, and adherence to College standards.
- Attend mandatory weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 8:30–9:00 a.m. CT and other required meetings, trainings, and project check-ins.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, course files, templates, and instructional assets.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of instructional design, online learning, accessibility, quality assurance, LMS tools, and educational technology. Ability to organize course content, develop instructional materials, follow templates and workflows, communicate effectively with faculty, manage multiple projects, and maintain accurate documentation.

Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, higher education, adult learning, or a related field preferred. Experience working in higher education, online course development, Canvas or another learning management system, Articulate Rise/Storyline or similar authoring tools, accessibility standards, quality assurance processes, and faculty support preferred.
