Job Summary:

The University of Colorado, School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is looking for full-time Sterilization Technicians to support the CUDT clinics and pre-doctoral programs. Under the direction of the Clinical Support Services department leadership, our Sterilization Technicians support clinical operations for the entire School of Dental Medicine (SDM). These positions are integral to dental education clinical operations, focusing on sterilization and sterile processing with the opportunity for training and career growth in a healthcare industry.

We are seeking administrative professionals interested in supporting the SDM in patient intake, scheduling, and clinic operations. The position is located at the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours will be dependent on business need, but typically will be Monday - Friday between the hours of 11:00am - 8:00pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the principles of sterilization and sterile processing.
  • Disassemble, inspect, test, and ensure proper functioning of instruments and equipment.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize various SDM instruments, equipment, and sanitizing machines according to established procedures and techniques.
  • Create and maintain accurate inventory, sterilization, and testing records and logs using a computer, laser wand, or scanner for barcode entry; run reports.
  • Prepare specialized instrument set-ups for undergraduate students, residents, and faculty to be used during dental patient treatment.
  • Operates all equipment in sterile processing including, but not limited to, steam sterilizers, biological incubators, heat sealers, instruments, and cart washer.
  • Collect and disperse reusable patient care instruments to clinic dispensary units.
  • Conduct post-sterilization inspections/audits.
  • As a mentor to new technicians, this role will need to identify the preferred learning styles of individual trainees or Dental Care I's and adjust their mentorship approach to align with that.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience in sterilization and sterile processing in a health care environment
  • One (1) year of experience preparing specialized dental instrument setups.
  • Substitution: Completion of a Sterile Processing Certification program OR a Dental Assistant Certification may substitute one (1) year of experience in sterilization and sterile processing in a health care environment.

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience preparing specialized dental instrument set ups.
  • Certification either as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or as a Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Experience in all stages of the sterilization process, including decontamination, preparation and packaging, storage and distribution.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $3,651 - $4,236 per month ($43,812- $50,830 per year).

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
