The Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with team coaches to develop pre-season, in-season and post-season development plans that follow scientific principles. The Strength and Conditioning Coach will meet regularly with athletic trainers to carry out return to play protocols as needed. The Strength and Conditioning Coach will maintain a clean working space that is safe and effective. The Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with the manager of fitness and recreation regularly on new concepts and ideas. Additionally, this position requires the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These duties are intended only as examples of the various types of job duties to be performed. The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
- Design, implement and schedule strength and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐season, and pre-season for assigned sports including strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, and more.
- Work in cooperation with the sports medicine and athletic training staff to assist in reducing the risk of injury and to help develop return to play plans if injuries occur.
- Facilitate a collaborative relationship among assigned sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
- Maintain weight room equipment to ensure clean and safe workspace for student athletes.
- Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
- Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coaches and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
- Conduct an annual needs analysis for equipment and facility space to advocate for equipment acquisition and/or facility changes so that current strength and conditioning best practices can be applied.
- Work with other areas of campus such as the Exercise Science Program to provide internship and work study opportunities for our students.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of student-athletes.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology or any related field
- Current certificate in Strength and Conditioning
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Three years of experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience as a strength and conditioning coach in a collegiate setting
- Current certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
