Position Introduction

The Office of Admissions & Recruitment (OAR) makes connections and creates experiences with the next generation of Sooners by supporting domestic and international freshman, transfer, and concurrent students throughout the application and decision process. Our team operates from Norman and across the state, nation, and world, partnering with faculty, staff, parents, counselors, and communities to provide guidance and resources to prospective students. Our goal is to build a vibrant OU community by recruiting the most academically qualified students with a variety of educational, service, involvement, and community experiences. We seek individuals who exhibit integrity, care, intentionality, and innovation.

Scope of Position/Essential Duties

  • Leads and supervises the Oklahoma Recruitment professional team of admissions counselors.
  • Manages staff and budget.
  • Serves as key stakeholder in planning and executing on-campus and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Mines data and strategically forms and leads the recruitment teams efforts nationally.
  • Creates and fosters relationships with high school counselors.
  • Presents to various prospective students and other groups on the topic of The University of Oklahoma, higher education, financial aid, and other topics.
  • Collaborates with Admissions & Recruitment senior leadership to enhance the outreach to prospective students.
  • Serves as integral member of admissions review committee, which involves extensive application review, regular admission committee work, and ensures the national team stays on track with application review.
  • Assists with establishing and maintaining a strategic network of alumni support and with other stakeholders in non-resident locations.
  • Participates in professional development conferences and activities.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
  • Regular local and limited national travel and some evening and weekend responsibilities are required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of student privacy laws.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases.
  • Some travel required for recruiting.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations.
  • Ability to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 60 months of related experience in higher education.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 108 months related experience.

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.
