Job Description:
The Office of the Dean of Students provides Great Danes and their
support network with inclusive, innovative, and impactful support
services and education to promote successful scholarship through
specialized resources, consultation, and, when appropriate,
advocacy to help them navigate the University at Albany. Our Office
serves as an umbrella for Community Standards (along with
off-campus resources), Disability Access and Inclusion Student
Services (DAISS), Supplemental Support Services, and Veteran and
Military Student Services (VMSS).

The Student Conduct Coordinator, Hearing Administrator is primarily
responsible for the oversight, coordination, and facilitation of
Student Conduct Hearings to resolve student conduct referrals
referred for formal adjudication. These referrals may be generated
from or related to University Police, Residential Life, Title IX,
other campus constituents, and off-campus partners.
The incumbent primarily works on weekdays during business hours as
the institution prescribes. Still, they may be required to
participate in weekend and after-hours events and activities in
certain circumstances. As a staff member in the Office of the Dean
of Students (DoS), the incumbent assists with office management,
which includes tasks like serving as a Professional of the Day
(PoD). The PoD may be required to assist the front desk staff and
respond to emails in the Dean of Students office email inbox.
Additionally, as a DoS staff member, the incumbent will participate
in activities, meetings, training sessions, and other events that
contribute to the goals and mission of the office at large. As a
staff member in Community Standards, the incumbent must monitor the
unit's inbox(es) and contribute to the unit's goals, objectives,
and success.
Primary Responsibilities:
Hearing Facilitation for conduct hearings, including sexual misconduct, with student respondent. Conducting pre-hearing preparation to review case files, address conflicts of interest, and review pre-hearing requests; facilitating meetings with involved parties to discuss the formal student adjudication process and procedures, their rights and responsibilities, and how to prepare for the hearing matters referred through Community Standards, including sexual misconduct cases. post-Hearing duties by sending Hearing decisions to appropriate parties, explain appeal rights and processes, and ensuring the maintenance of records in compliance with institution policy. Serve as the liaison between Community Standards and external departments or units to receive and review referrals for formal adjudication, assess the need for appropriate resolution and need for interim action, or referrals for other resources of support.
Responsible for the development and implementation of Hearing
Board recruitment strategy and assist the Student Conduct
Coordinator (Supervision Support) with training all Hearing Board
members, advisors, and appeal officers.
Provide support to the Student Conduct Coordinators and
Assistant Dean to assist with referrals assessed as low-level
violations and referrals for alternative resolution.
Serving as Hearing Facilitator for all sexual misconduct (Title
IX hearings) in cases with employee respondents. Conducting
meetings with involved parties to discuss the formal sexual
misconduct adjudication process and procedures for employees, their
rights and responsibilities, how to prepare for the hearing.
Serving as a Hearing Chairperson, maintaining the order and
facilitation of the hearing in compliance with policy, and drafting
comprehensive written rationales for review by Human Resources. The
incumbent will partner with supervising staff and the Office of the
General Counsel to review written rationales for clarity and
consistency.
- Serve as the liaison between the Office of the Title IX
Coordinator and Human Resources to receive and review referrals for
formal adjudication against employees.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of an
Employee Review Board specific to sexual misconduct investigations,
recruitment strategy, and training all Employee Review Board
members and others necessary for the process.
Serving as a Hearing Chairperson for hearings with student or
employee respondents in all sexual misconduct cases. Responsible
for the oversight and management of the Hearing to ensure decorum,
compliance with policy and rules, and to manage the overall order
of the Hearing. Leading hearing deliberations by guiding the
Hearing Board to systematically review and evaluate evidence and
testimony, enforce the appropriate standard of proof, facilitate
consensus in outcome, and compiling drafts of comprehensive written
decisions for the Hearing Board. The incumbent will partner with
supervising staff and the Office of the General Counsel to review
written decisions for clarity and consistency.
Supports and maintains student disciplinary records per the
Records Retention & Disposition policy and process. Primarily
responsible for responding to requests for disciplinary records
from students and third parties per FERPA.
Represents the Office of the Dean of Students by serving as
Co-Chair of the University at Albany Ex-Offender Admissions Review
Committee and reviews admissions applications in compliance with
institutional and regulatory expectations.
Supports Community Standards by participating in administrative
tasks, including committees, responding to the Community Standards
inbox, and assisting Student Conduct Coordinators with any related
tasks as needed.
Facilitates, attends, and represents the Office of the Dean of
Students and Community Standards at fairs, functions, town-gown
related events, and events to educate participants about the
services and assistance offered.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree from a college or University accredited by
the US Department of Education or internationally recognized
accrediting organization.
- Minimum of two years of full-time professional experience
working in Student Affairs or a similar student service capacity in
Higher Education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) or more years of experience adjudicating student
conduct cases and/or annually serving and regularly participating
as a Hearing Board member for student conduct cases, including
Title IX and sexual misconduct cases.
- Baccalaureate degree in Higher Education, Criminal Justice,
Public Administration, or a related area from a college or
university accredited by the US Department of Education or an
internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Analytical skills, demonstrated by experience analyzing complex
evidence and facts, adjudicating student conduct cases, and/or
writing clear, organized, evidence-based student conduct hearing
decisions.
- Experience in crisis or incident management.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant,
SL3, $60,245.
