Te Kahu Tauira | Student and Scholarly Services (SaSS) was established with the aim of strengthening the integration of student facing services to improve effectiveness at all points along the student journey. SaSS encompasses a wide range of student-facing services, plus services that support researchers and academic staff in their teaching. Services include academic services, libraries and learning support, Student hubs and the Student Experience Centre, services to support Māori and Pacific kaimahi and students, student engagement and wellbeing. The Student Conduct Office works to support a safe, welcoming and equitable environment for our community.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the team as a Student Conduct Investigator.
The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
The Student Conduct Investigator plays an essential role in creating a safe, inclusive and equitable environment at the University of Auckland by carrying out the work of the Student Conduct Office to bring about timely and effective resolution of student conduct and discipline matters through appropriate resolution pathways, including investigations relating to student conduct and discipline. At times, this work involves complex problems and highly sensitive issues.
The role advises Academic and Professional staff, with a particular focus on colleagues in Faculties, on student general misconduct, including formal, informal, and alternative discipline and conflict resolution processes. The Investigator utilises strong relationships with a wide range of relevant stakeholders and a thorough knowledge of University policy and procedure, as well as legal principles and frameworks.

In this role, you will
- Review, advise on and resolve student general misconduct and complaints in alignment with University policies, procedures and statutes and principles of natural justice.
- Undertake student misconduct investigations, including complex and sensitive cases, prepare investigation reports and recommendations as well as documentation for disciplinary processes.
- Provide education and support to staff and student groups regarding behavioural complaints, with a particular focus on supporting staff in Faculties.
- Ensure data collection on notifications, complaints, and incidents is rigorous and accurate, and undertaken in a way that allows for rapid data extraction and reporting to senior management on high-risk matters
- Actively protects, participates and promotes the University’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to achieve equity outcomes for staff and students in a safe, inclusive and equitable environment.
This is a full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role. The salary range for this role is $93,201 - $107,500 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Experience in a comparable role, for example, in a complaints, investigations or regulatory organisation, or in a legal setting such as an employment relations role.
- Experience in investigating, mediating, and/or processing complex complaints between parties.
- Building relationships with a diverse and wide range of stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and strong communication skills in both written and verbal communication
- Ideally have a background in law, alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice or formal investigations.
- Experience working in a policy-driven environment where you provide expert advice
- Demonstrable experience in managing sensitive and complex cases and utilising tact, diplomacy, impartiality, discretion, and empathy.
- Experience working in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural environment.
