Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Student Experience Adviser plays a vital role in supporting students to feel connected, supported, and engaged throughout their university journey. Working within Student Support and Engagement, this role focuses on creating meaningful co‑curricular experiences that enhance students’ sense of belonging and contribute to retention and success outcomes.

You’ll work closely with students, faculty staff, clubs, and central support teams to deliver initiatives, events, and programmes that support wellbeing, connection, and engagement beyond the academic space. This is a varied, people‑focused role that suits someone who enjoys building relationships and bringing ideas to life.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver a calendar of engaging initiatives, activities, and events that support students in non‑academic spaces.
  • Work with individual students and student groups to encourage participation in co‑curricular activities and enhance their sense of belonging.
  • Support and promote mentoring, leadership, volunteering, and community engagement programmes.
  • Collaborate with faculty, Campus Life, and central support services to coordinate student wellbeing initiatives and communications.
  • Support faculty clubs and student executives through training, resources, promotion, and event delivery.
  • Gather and analyse qualitative and quantitative feedback to evaluate programme effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Deliver services that align with customer‑centred service standards, equity commitments, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

This is a fulltime, permanent position.

The salary range for this role is $63,600 - $79,300 based on skills and experience.

You are a confident, approachable, and solutions‑focused professional who enjoys working directly with students. You’re someone who can quickly understand what students need, connect them with the right support, and create opportunities that help them thrive.

You’ll bring strong interpersonal and organisational skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to manage a varied workload with energy and attention to detail. You’re comfortable working across teams, building relationships, and adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic tertiary environment.

You will bring:

  • Experience delivering activities, events, or programmes in a customer‑focused environment.
  • Experience working in a tertiary or learning environment, ideally with students.
  • Understanding of equity issues in Aotearoa New Zealand, particularly relating to Māori and Pacific communities.
  • Strong relationship‑building, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver initiatives while seeing the bigger picture.
  • Confidence using digital tools and systems, including the Microsoft Office suite.
