Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Student Editor of the NZJPIL (New Zealand Journal of Public and International Law). The NZJPIL is a peer-reviewed law review which publishes between 1 or 2 issues a year. It is a casual position for one-year with the possibility of extending it to two-years maximum. The Student Editor-in-Chief will work with the Managing Editor, Production Administrator, the Committee and a small team of student volunteers. The term commences in February/March 2026 with a handover from the current Student Editor-in-Chief.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinates the editing process by distributing articles between assistant editors, the committee and for author approval. Editing to comply with the NZ Law Style Guide.
- Completes a full final edit of each issue of the NZJPIL (particularly checking compliance with the NZ Law Style Guide).
- Takes notes of any committee meetings and distributes (if held).
- Liaison with the Production administrator at all stages.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
The role would suit a third- or fourth-year undergraduate law student with:
- A solid academic record, preferably with a record of research or published work.
- Previous experience as a volunteer editor of the journal is an advantage.
- Capable, dependable with good time management skills.
- Familiarity with the New Zealand Law Style Guide.
- Familiarity with editing in Word.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
