Student Employment Pool-Resident Assistant
Primary Purpose of the Organization
The Resident Assistant (RA) and/or Lead Resident Assistant is an undergraduate student responsible for developing relationships with students living in the residence halls and working closely with other Residence Life professional and administrative staff to develop and maintain an atmosphere that promotes community through excellence in academics, inclusion, and personal development opportunities for students. As an employee of the Department of Housing & Residence Life, each RA will support FSU and the Department of Housing & Residence Life mission statements, adhere to, administer, and enforce policies and procedures as outlined in the FSU Code of Conduct and the Guide to Residential Living. The RA is the crucial link in creating an environment in which students develop independence, achieve academic success, and learn to live cooperatively with others. The RA will have multiple responsibilities including but not limited to community development, programming, maintenance, administrative tasks, customer service, student/guest referral(s), and office management. The RA will serve as the first point of contact for students and guests in their specific community and the Department of Housing & Residence Life and is required to demonstrate a high level of professionalism. RAs must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and must be a residential student to be considered for the position. Students selected to be RAs must not be Executive Board members of SAC, SGA, or be an Orientation Leader because of the overlapping time commitments associated with the roles.
Primary Purpose of the Position
- RAs must be available during the week and on weekends to serve in an on duty/on call capacity.
- RAs must be available to work at anytime residents are in occupancy, including times of adverse weather, during special events (i.e., Homecoming Week, Spirit week, Spring Break) and Holidays.
- RA’s typically have a two-week vacation in between semesters. Lead RAs are expected to share duty responsibilities over break periods when the residence halls remain open, not limited to and may include December holidays.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Currently enrolled full-time Fayetteville State University student.
- Must have an established cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a minimum of 30 semester hours.
- Knowledge of campus community resources.
- Must be willing/able to live on campus as primary place of residence.
Knowledge skills and abilities
Must be available to move on campus and begin training during advertised dates.
Preferred Qualifications
Individuals with on campus housing experience or experience with community/campus engagement activities.
