Summary Description
This student staff position will be a driving force in increasing student engagement and visitation to The Spot: Center for Basic Needs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the planning of programs and events, as well as supporting the Basic Needs team. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and engaged individual who is passionate about supporting their peers and making a positive impact on campus.
This position will provide peer-to-peer support and work closely with Basic Needs team members to ensure the success of student outreach, daily operations, and serve as a liaison between student visitors and the Basic Needs team. The person in this position will support team members in maintaining a clean, safe food pantry operation, an organized and welcoming clothing closet, and more.
This person will work within the Basic Needs Program, this program provides support, community building, and access to resources for students encountering food and housing insecurities.
Representative Duties
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Provide individualized and group support to visiting students with empathy and kindness
- Ensure students complete established requirements before accessing services
- Comply with assigned trainings to maintain food, data, and center safety
- Gain familiarity with eligibility requirements for The Spot
- Support outreach, training, and workshop efforts
- Understand and apply protections for confidential student information
- Coordinate and conduct presentations about program outreach, eligibility, access, and other issues related to food insecurity and nutrition
- Participate in local collaborative meetings to promote The Spot
- Maintain records concerning program activities; process incoming and outgoing documents; prepare and track various documents
- Support efforts with campus and community partners related to CalFresh activities
- Create informational pamphlets, brochures, digital flyers about The Spot, such as eligibility information, how to apply, deadlines, how to use, etc.
