The Student Support Services Peer Tutor (SSSPT) provides support services for the students in lab, one-on-one, or open classroom settings. Peer Tutors do not deliver instruction; they provide tutorial support for specific content areas and students in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the college. The (SSSPT) provides tutorial support for program participants and tracks their progress each semester through graduation, providing services that support retention and graduation.

Local Salary Schedule (L) $10 per hour for up to 19 hours per week. This is a part time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides academic assistance to the assigned student, either in a group or individual setting
2. Assists students in achieving a better understanding of a specific subject area and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas
3. Attends periodic training or orientation sessions as required by the director
4. Documents student progress
5. Assists students with the development of study skills necessary for academic success
6. Helps foster positive attitudes toward learning and studying
7. Motivates and supports students’ achievement and success.
8. Establishes and maintains rapport with the assigned student(s).
9. Serves as a role model for students receiving services.
10. Fosters an inclusive learning environment.
11. Have a high level of patience and a sincere desire to share academic successes and abilities with their peers
12. Ensure successful performance, retention, and graduation of SSS participants.
13. Recruit participants with the potential and motivation for college entry and success.
14. Monitor academic progress and contact faculty and staff throughout the semester as necessary.
15. Uphold professional ethical standards that do not breach confidentiality and student relationships.
16. Maintain an appropriate work schedule to accommodate participants.
17. Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting office environment in which participants feel comfortable.
18. Provides data to the Director when requested and in accordance with program requirements
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
