General Description
The Success Coach of Center of Excellence for Veterans Student Success Coach is critical to provide veteran students with peer and success coaching, offering personalized guidance and support to enhance their academic achievement, persistence, and overall college experience.
This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.

Minimum Education/Experience
Minimum 6 months experience advising or tutoring students in an institution of higher education
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of veteran education benefits
- Familiarity with the challenges and unique needs of veteran and military-affiliated students transitioning to college life
- Understanding of higher education
- Committed to helping student achieve their goals to be successful and attain a college education
Skills:
- Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills
- Basic computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or similar software
- Organization and attention to detail
Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively in a higher education setting
- Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
- Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.
- Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting concepts verbally
- Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
This position requires the person to frequently move about the center to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, and staff to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position frequently requires the person to operate and inspect a computer and other Writing Center equipment to assist and/or instruct students on proper operation.
This position requires the person to view a computer multiple hours in a day.They are asked to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor center, classroom, or office setting.

Job Duties (Position Specific)

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)
- Assist the Director and Coordinator in meeting the objectives of the Center of Excellence for Veteran Services (CEVSS) grant project - 1) increasing enrollment of Veteran students 2) Increasing Veteran student persistence rates, and 3) increasing Veteran student completion rates.
- Promoting student support services available for Veteran students.
- Assist with communications of early academic warning systems and mid-term and end of term grade checks.
- Assist with retention-based activities and events for Veteran students and military-affiliated students.
- Communicate with various campus and off campus community resources to connect Veteran students with expressed academic and/or social concerns.
- Assist Veteran Services Center staff with general upkeep of office areas and lounge.
- Assist with administrative tasks in the Veteran Services Center including but not limited to answering phones, directing students, organizing and stocking available resource publications, answering general questions about the Veteran Services Center and general campus.
- Effectively interact and communicate with students, faculty and staff visitors while performing duties.
- Participate in training offered by OCCC appropriate to this position to remain effective in this positions assigned duties.
- Assist Veteran students with their lecture material, lab work, and/or special projects in person or via zoom during their work hours in the Veteran Services Center.
- Must be willing to complete tutor training, required training per OCCC normal requirements, including annual Title IX and FERPA trainings.
