JOB DUTIES
The DREAM Program provides inclusive postsecondary opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities. The Education Specialist - Academic Component (Part-Time) Teaching is responsible for leading the Transition to College course, and the Academic Success Support course.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach the Transition to College course for new DREAM Program students.
- Teach Academic Success Support classes for continuing students, focusing on study skills, self-advocacy, organization, and independent learning strategies.
- Provide support to students during regularly scheduled office hours.
- Manage the existing class shells, for both classes, and course material on Blackboard.
- Deliver assessment, progress updates and cumulative grades for students attending these courses.
- Keep the program Manager updated regarding important student issues/concerns

WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a part-time position, expected to work up to 24 hours per week.
- Work schedule may vary depending on program needs.
- Please note that assigned tasks and responsibilities span both campuses for all MCCC positions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices and strategies for supporting students with intellectual disabilities.
- Strong understanding of federal legislation impacting disability services in higher education (FERPA, ADA, IDEA, Section 504).
- Ability to develop curriculum and teach courses tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Proficiency with assistive technologies (e.g., text-to-speech, speech-to-text, organizational apps, LMS systems).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience designing and leading classes for students in secondary or postsecondary settings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Special Education, Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Relevant certifications in special education, counseling, or assistive technology.
