Job Description:

The UB/UBMS Summer Academy is an immersive residential program designed to prepare first-generation and low-income high school students for college and careers in Professional/STEM fields. Students participate in rigorous academic coursework, hands-on STEM activities, and college-readiness workshops while residing on a college campus.

We are looking for motivated and compassionate Academic Residential Assistants (ARAs) to provide leadership, support, and supervision to students during the summer academy. RAs are essential in creating a positive, structured, and safe residential environment for students while also encouraging academic and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor a cohort of students in a residential setting.
  • Enforce program rules, safety procedures, and residence hall policies.
  • Plan and lead evening activities, including team-building exercises and recreational events.
  • Encourage student participation in both academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Serve as a role model, encouraging student participation and positive behavior.
  • Conduct nightly check-ins and address student concerns.
  • Collaborate with program staff and provide support for special events.
  • Respond to student emergencies and communicate concerns to program leadership.
  • Maintain regular communication with program staff, faculty, and students.
  • Address student concerns or conflicts and escalate issues to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Attend all staff meetings and maintain required records.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years old and completed at least two years of college.
  • Passion for working with disadvantaged populations
  • Prior experience working with youth in an educational, mentoring, or residential setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both team and independent settings.
  • Required to live on campus when the program is in session.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a CORI and SORI check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual ability is a plus
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van is a plus.

Additional Information:

Additional Info:

  • Salary: $4,000
  • Room & board provided (approximate value: $2,680)
  • CPR, emergency management, and other training provided
  • Overnight position available if preferred

Tentative Summer Schedule:

  • Program Dates: June 18 - August 8th (residency required)
  • Closed Friday, July 3, 2026
