Summer Maintenance Technician (Painter)

Job Summary:

The Summer Maintenance Technician (Painter) will support repair and renovation of surfaces by applying decorative and protective finishes to wood, metal and other surfaces, under the direction of the Assistant General Maintenance Supervisor.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Prepares and finishes surfaces by cleaning, sanding and applying base or protective finishes in preparation of final surface material; mixing and applying paints, enamels, stains, shellac, varnishes, or other finishes using brushes, sprayers, or rollers; mixing paints and matching colors using proper proportions of pigment, oil, base, and thinner on interior and exterior surfaces; taping and bedding sheetrock.
2. Ensures finished product quality by applying industry standards and procedures; measuring results against standards.
3. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
4. Ensures operation of tools and equipment used in the job by completing preventive maintenance requirement; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• High school student or graduate, GED or equivalency
• Willingness to learn painting techniques.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience and/or training in the public assembly facility management industry.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques.
• Skill in using basic hand tools.
• Ability to mixing surface materials.
• Ability to operate related equipment.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders and stairs, and prolonged sitting.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus in-person position.
• May be exposed to hazardous materials and noxious fumes on occasion.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
