Description:

The School of Art's Summer Pre-College Program at Carnegie Mellon University continually seeks qualified adjunct instructors to teach various studio courses. This is an open call for part-time adjunct instructors in the areas of Drawing, Painting, Print Media, Photography, Sculpture, and Animation.

The School of Art's Pre-College Program is a three- or six-week academic experience for talented and highly motivated high school students entering their junior and senior years (grades 11 & 12). The 2024 summer program, which will operate in person and on campus, begins on June 24 and runs through August 2. In-person classes are offered on a Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday schedule from 9am to 12pm, and 1pm to 4pm. Courses have an average enrollment of 15 students per class.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engaged in an active studio practice
  • Experience teaching art in a higher education setting (high school teaching or instruction in informal learning environments would also be considered)
  • Ability to support the creative development of students whose backgrounds and skills vary widely
  • Enhancement of students' ability to synthesize critique feedback to advance their technique
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing classroom dynamics
  • Experience with implementing active learning in the studio
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices
  • BFA and/or MFA degree preferred

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis all year long. Candidates who meet the criteria for needed courses will be contacted during planning for summer programming.

We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized or underrepresented in art and higher education and who will contribute to the breadth of our program.
