Supervising Mental Health Specialist - Multiple Vacancies
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Mental Health Specialist for the Brandt Behavioral Health Treatment within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Supervising Mental Health Specialist is to participate as a member of a treatment team in providing care and services to children (age 17 years). Collaborates with the clinical and administrative leadership of the program offering comprehensive mental health care to children and their families. Primarily responsible for providing children care, leadership, training, and supervision to MHS II's, MHS III's and MHS IV's.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Participates effectively in personnel matters relating to Mental Health Specialists according to Unit standards.
- Provides training, clinical and administrative supervision to subordinate specialists in a professional and helpful manner.
- Takes initiative in engaging clients.
- Provides appropriate management interventions in an effective and therapeutic manner.
- Obtains information, formulates and implements a wide range of interventions that best facilitate patients' wellbeing and growth.
- Observes interventions, and interactions with patients in accordance with policies that reflect knowledge of growth and development as well as an understanding of the cognitive, emotional, physical and maturation level of the patients.
- Assures completion of any documentation as required by departmental policies and procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant social, education or health care field, plus one (1) year experience in a relevant health care field.
- Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of the day. Duties may involve running and playing active with adolescents and young adults (ages 16-22 years of age).
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Crowded and moderately noisy conditions with adolescents, young adults, and staff moving about.
