Supervisory Service Technician (Barrier)
An opportunity has arisen for motivated Supervisory Service Technician (Barrier) to join our friendly team within a busy Biofacility in South Cambridge.
The Supervisory Service Technician (Barrier) provides a valuable service to ensure the smooth operation of the biomedical barrier. The role holder will be responsible for maintaining the essential provision of cages and equipment, consumables and other stock, through operation of industrial machinery in order to prepare, clean, sterilise and maintain animal caging and associated equipment throughout the barrier area to meet the requirements of staff, and research users of the facility.
The role holder will complete general portering duties primarily the internal distribution of caging, equipment and scrubs to meet research requirements. The role holder shall also complete general cleaning and maintenance duties within the barrier area and procedural areas, including replenishment of PPE / RPE, and ensuring the correct storage and disposal of all waste materials including clinical waste.
The Supervisory Service Technician (Barrier) will act as a key point of contact for the Service team, communicating with the other Biofacility teams (Services, Stores) regarding caging and equipment requirements, allocation of daily tasks and prioritising when required. The role holder will be required to provide a high standard of work, organisation and hygiene as directed by departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and basic supervision and support to the other Service Technicians working within the barrier area.
The will involve lifting and manual handling for which training will be given, as well regular repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
The successful candidate will be a motivated team player with good communication skills, literate, numerate and basic IT literacy are important. You will have good attention to detail, able to work in a clean and organised way, able to manage your own time and workload. Previous experience working with industrial cagewash / autoclave equipment within an academic or commercial laboratory is essential. A basic understanding of Home Office requirements and legislation relevant to biomedical research would also be an advantage.
The role is available immediately and is subject to completion of a 3 month probationary period.
