Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader
DESCRIPTION
This position provides peer-based academic assistance and does not replace the duties of classified staff or faculty. The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader provides peer-based academic support for students enrolled in historically challenging science courses by facilitating collaborative study sessions aligned with course instruction. SI Leaders model effective learning strategies, encourage active participation and critical thinking, maintain appropriate session records, and foster a supportive learning environment under the guidance of faculty and/or learning support staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Napa Valley College student
- Successful completion of the supported course (or equivalent) with a grade of B or higher.
- Recommendation from a science or mathematics instructor.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to facilitate collaborative learning and group discussion effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous tutoring, mentoring, peer leadership, or instructional experience.
- Interest in education, healthcare, STEM, or related fields.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and learning styles.
