Synthetic Chemist - Chemistry Department (Part-Time)
The Department of Chemistry is seeking a part-time synthetic chemist to perform the synthesis of cyanine dye derivatives as a part of a larger project in cancer drug development. The desired applicant will have extensive experience in organic synthesis and compound characterization. Relevant experience in the organic synthesis of cyanine dyes or other chromophores would be a plus.
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Chemistry (or related field) with at least 2 years of industrial or academic laboratory experience in organic chemistry, or an M.S. degree in Chemistry.
- Demonstrated competence in organic synthesis and characterization of organic compounds (NMR, MS, UV-Vis, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the synthesis of dyes or other highly colored organic compounds.
- Familiarity with photochemistry and photophysical characterization techniques for dye molecules.
- Background in the organic synthesis of cyanine dyes or other chromophoric systems is highly desirable.
Desired Skills & Attributes:
- Strong hands-on laboratory skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to plan, execute, and analyze multistep organic syntheses independently.
- Excellent record-keeping and communication skills.
