Job Description

FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR-ENT to maintain integrity of the operating system environment. To perform system software upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing, and coordination. To perform workstation and server administration setup. To coordinate disk space planning and management. To maintain growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories. To perform data backups and recoveries. To monitor and maintain continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements. To provide recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting. To maintain production change control schedule and participates in change control. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Install, configure, and manage university IT systems and software.
• Troubleshoot system outages and user issues.
• Document installation and update procedures and problem resolutions.
• Be available for on-call duties as a member of a rotating schedule.

(Annual Salary: $60,835 - $98,855)

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Information Systems or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferred Skills: Windows and Linux operating systems. Scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell. Related experience: Operating Systems such as Windows or Linux. Scripting experience such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
