The Interdepartmental Centre for Critical Care at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health, Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) site, and the Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management at UHN/Sinai are seeking applications for a full-time active staff appointment as an Academic Anesthesiologist & Intensivist Clinician-Quality Improvement. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be July 1, 2024, or one which is mutually agreed upon.
The successful applicant must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications, or equivalent with training in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine and have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario (CPSO). Formal training in quality improvement is essential. Excellence will be assessed by advanced training in quality improvement or equivalent, successful quality improvement initiatives, evidence of practice and/or equipment innovations, and invitations to significant conferences, and accolades.
The successful candidate will lead the inter-professional critical care team during clinical weeks on call in the role of attending physician in the ICU at MSH and will also perform duties in the Sinai operating rooms as part of the anesthesia team. In addition, the candidate will develop an academic body of work, establishing a quality improvement focus on topics relevant to the Sinai/UHN Critical Care Program. The successful candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills and thrive within a collaborative and interdisciplinary program involving multiple specialties (medicine, surgery, radiology, etc.). Clinical skills and certification with transesophageal or transthoracic echocardiography are an asset.
The Mount Sinai Hospital ICU is well known locally and internationally for its expertise in caring for patients with severe respiratory failure, critically ill patients with cancer, and for obstetrical critical care. The unit also provides post-operative care for many general and orthopaedic surgery patients.
Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Protected time for research will be negotiated in line with qualifications and merit. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the usual range for an anesthesiologist and Intensivist in the Province of Ontario ($300,000-500,000 per annum).
