Job Duties:
The Learning and Technology Consultant supports instructors and staff in effectively integrating educational technologies (such as Canvas, Kaltura, and Zoom) into online, hybrid, and in‑person teaching. This role enhances instructional design, develops high‑quality and accessible digital materials, and strengthens student engagement. courses and content. The position also contributes to university‑wide initiatives that advance teaching and learning in both physical and digital learning environments.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Technical Support: Provide hands‑on assistance with learning technologies (Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura) and assistive tools (screen readers, captioning software); troubleshoot technical and accessibility issues; support effective use of instructional technologies across modalities; and respond to Neurons support tickets with timely, effective resolutions.
- Accessibility & Compliance: Design, develop, and remediate instructional materials to meet accessibility standards (including WCAG); conduct accessibility audits and testing; and ensure alignment with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
- Resource Creation: Develop and maintain digital accessibility training materials including guides, reference manuals, online modules, and templates to support faculty and staff.
- Consultation & Training: Provide one‑on‑one coaching, lead workshops, and create training resources focused on best practices in digital accessibility and instructional technology.
- Knowledge Maintenance: Stay current with UDL principles, accessibility regulations, and emerging trends in instructional technology across in‑person, blended, and online learning environments.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, or recommends multimedia learning materials. Facilitates communications with multimedia service providers to ensure instructional needs are met
- Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults on instructional materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods
- Designs, develops, and delivers faculty development and engagement programs and activities
- Researches, designs, and/or acquires learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
- Provides training and technical support directly to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums
- Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
- Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
- Collects, organizes, interprets, and disseminates data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness
- Designs and develops engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online

The Center for Advancing Student Learning (CASL) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is the university's central hub for supporting excellence in teaching and learning. CASL empowers instructors and students by promoting innovative, evidence‑based teaching practices, advancing educational technology, and fostering inclusive, high‑impact learning experiences across all modalities.
Compensation:
$57,500 - $67,500/annually. Salary will be determined by finalist's experience, training, education, and equity-based factors.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Information Technology, Education, or a related field.
- Two years of experience with a university Learning Management System (LMS)
- Three years of customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education Administration, Education Technology, or a related field.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Evidence of troubleshooting in Canvas LMS
- Demonstrated understanding or work with digital accessibility laws
