About the opportunity

The Office of the Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor drives the development of the University’s research strategy and is responsible for enhancing the University’s research, researcher development, research ethics, communication of research impact and research innovation profile as well as the creation, support and advancement of local, national and international research collaborations and partnerships.

The Research Ethics Officer is responsible for the internal management of research ethics policies and procedures, providing expert advice to the University about its obligations and responsibilities concerning the conduct of research and teaching involving human participants in research and teaching, and research integrity. Core responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic advice and analysis on research ethics matters to stakeholders, including areas of exposure, risk analysis and management.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure University compliance with national and international research ethics guidelines and regulations, including oversight of reporting requirements.
  • Manage administrative functions of Ethics Committees, coordinate ethics training programs, and oversee complaint and adverse event reporting processes, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and legislative requirements.

About you

You will bring a wealth of experience in human research ethics or ethics management from a university, health or research setting, with a demonstrated track record of managing competing priorities, developing innovative solutions to problems and responding positively to changing work environments. More specifically, you will have:

  • A track record of applying legislation and policies, undertaking risk management activities, ideally within a research environment.
  • Outstanding communication, diplomacy and negotiation skills across all levels of an organisation.
  • Demonstrated track record in the effective delivery of advice, analysis and education on procedural and compliance issues and effective complaint management skills.

Salary and benefits

  • Full-time, continuing (permanent)
  • Ideally, located at Lismore with generous relocation support available. Alternative campus locations of Gold Coast or Coffs Harbour may be negotiated for the right candidate.
  • HEW Level 7. The base salary ranges from $99,711 - $108,268 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $126,673.
