Located in the national historic landmark village of Geneseo in New York State’s Finger Lakes region, the residential campus overlooks the picturesque Genesee Valley, just 30 miles south of the major metropolitan area of Rochester and 70 miles east of Buffalo.


The Assistant Vice President for College Advancement (AVP) reports to the Vice President for College Advancement, and is responsible for leading, managing, and directing the major and planned gifts functions in support of the College’s mission and strategic plan. The position ensures the successful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of financial contributions by alumni, parents of current and former students, friends, corporations, and foundations. The AVP serves as a member of the Vice President’s senior management team and works closely with advancement services, annual giving, alumni and parent relations, and communications colleagues, ensuring effective collaboration and current best practices. The AVP maintains and strengthens connections with all members of the Geneseo community, including students, faculty, and staff to create and facilitate a successful and enduring culture of philanthropy for Geneseo. The position plays a central role in managing fundraising volunteers and in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines to support the work of major and planned gifts.


This position is designated as Management Confidential and serves at the pleasure of the President. It is not eligible for permanent appointment, nor is it represented by a collective bargaining unit. A full range of benefits are available. Required QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • The successful candidate will be ambitious, enthusiastic, creative, collaborative, and service-driven.
  • Demonstrated track record of progressively responsible experience in a higher-education fundraising setting with demonstrated direct experience in securing major/planned gifts (at least six figures), campaign, supervisory, and administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated business acumen; leadership; writing; and organizational skills.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, including a gift for public speaking; capacity to listen; ability to interface with staff and volunteers collaboratively; ability to initiate and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, and College and community representatives.
  • Exceptional integrity; mature judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality with constituent information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Preferred QualificationsFive or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in a higher education advancement department with demonstrated direct experience in securing major/planned gifts (at least six figures), campaign, supervisory, and administrative experience.

Researches best practices for donor relations on an ongoing basis to identify processes that best fit Geneseo’s advancement program.
