This position is designed to use evidence-based practices for retaining and successfully graduating multicultural and other vulnerable student populations NOT affiliated with existing campus student support programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Student Support Services (SSS), Cardinal Achievement Program (CAP), and the Global Education Office (GEO). The Multicultural Student Success Coach is required to promote holistic student well-being and success by helping to develop strategies to reduce equity gaps in retention and graduation rates and by helping to foster positive outcomes for multicultural students and vulnerable populations through case management and equity-minded advising. This position will rely upon connecting students from diverse backgrounds to essential campus resources including tutoring, holistic and culturally competent academic advising, accessibility and accommodation resources, and trauma-informed counseling services and support that allow students to be successful. This position will utilize and monitor Cardinal Star records of caseload students to assess attendance, progress, and to note areas of concern. This position will utilize an established university process through Cardinal Star for responding to academic flags related to student success, and will serve as a member of the Multicultural Student Retention Committee led by the Vice President of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. - Experience working effectively with people and teams with a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds
- Ability to respond effectively to challenging student and community issues, including skills to lead difficult conversations and dialogues across differences
- Ability to work independently to resolve problems including the development of relevant alternatives and recommendations
- Ability to form strong coalitions with internal and external constituencies
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
- Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree
- Demonstrated experience working with BIPOC, multicultural, and diverse students, and helping them to be successful and persist in adverse campus environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, written, and oral communication skills
- Two (2) years minimum of experience working with students in a higher education setting
