We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our fantastic research team here at the Target Discovery Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. The Song research group aims to decode the chemical modifications of our genome, transcriptome, and proteome in human health and disease – cancer in particular – and translating this information into diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities that ultimately benefit patients. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with experience in epigenetics or epitranscriptomics to lead various projects such as cell-free epigenetics or epitranscriptomics sequencing for cancer detection and single-cell epigenetics or epitranscriptomics sequencing for studying tumour heterogeneity.

As Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will be responsible for adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and experimental protocol and testing hypotheses and analysing scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will be tasked with developing ideas for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers as well as collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters. You will also be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

To be successful in this role, you will hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Chemistry along with relevant experience. You will have experience of communicating results clearly and logically as part of a diverse research team. You will have strong skill set in standard Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Cell Biology techniques and experience in epigenetics or epitranscriptomics.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
