Summary of Position

Designs, develops and delivers engaging and effective workforce training programs in the field of networking and telecommunications for the Division of Workforce Education and Innovation’s IT Workforce Accelerator. Specific area of focus on, but not limited to, CompTIA, Cisco, Broadband Infrastructure, 5G and related technologies. 

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Develops and maintains course materials and instructional aids, including lecture notes, presentations, and laboratory exercises. Delivers lecture-based and hands-on training in areas such as network design, network protocols, network security, broadband and 5G telecommunications systems and technologies, and related subjects.


Plans and designs hands-on training activities for online, hybrid and classroom experiences which contribute to the students’ comprehension of course content. Presents information with a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures.


Monitors and assesses performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Works with Program Manager and divisional leadership to develop mentorship programs or similar to support program retention and completion.


Stays current with industry developments and incorporate new technologies and best practices into course materials.


Collaborates with other instructors and department managers to improve overall training programs and initiatives.


Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned.


Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.


Work Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule including first and second shift. Ability to work weekends. Ability to work both in person at the IT Workforce Accelerator at Silvesti Hall, additional divisional and partner training centers, and online through the YSU Skills Accelerator and Blackboard Learn. This position is a grant project and will end on 09/30/2025, unless funding is extended. 


Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over staff and students.


Reports to: Program Manager, Networking and Telecommunications 

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:  Ability to become a certifed instructor in 5G Readiness and Broadband, Cisco, and any additional Broadband and 5G related curriculum and in any related area of need.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Knowledge of: various programming fundamentals including languages including languages like java, python, html, SQL; network and server administration concepts; cybersecurity fundamentals; 5G and wireless technologies, broadband infrastructure; adult learning and competency-based learning techniques.


Skill in: networking and telecommunications including software (web design, programming basics) and hardware (routers, switches, wireless); Cisco wired and wireless technology; online and blended learning environments; exhibiting excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills and passion for education and helping students succeed; using virtual classroom platforms; and in curriculum design and development


Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience; prior experience teaching IT or related courses at the corporate, college, or vocational level. Current certification in related technology such as 5G/Broadband, Cisco, AWS, or Linux. 


Preferred Qualifications: Master or bachelor's degree in education. Certification in related area, such as programming, networking, databases, Cisco CCNA, and/or CCNE.
