Who we are/About Us

Te Niwha are searching for a strong relationship leader who can support our vision and mission by:

•  Giving effect to partnership through nurtured relationships with Māori that respond to their needs and aspirations as Treaty partners.

•  Giving effect to whakawhanaungatanga with Pacific peoples.

•  Bring into focus the development of knowledge sharing networks that ensures the exchange of mātauranga (knowledge) is aligned to the outcomes of the platform, is grounded in a Te Tiriti o Waitangi principled approach, and endures through implementation and thereafter.

About this role/About the Role

The Pouārahi will lead with the support of the Directorate internal cultural confidence within Te Ao Māori, Tangata Pasifika and priority populations. 

The Pouārahi will co-lead Partnership Engagement alongside the Research Engagement Manager, facilitate the collaboration of our national pūkenga rangahau (research experts) and, over the life course of Te Niwha, support research development and outcomes across government agencies with iwi Māori and tangata Pasifika.

Skills and Experience

•  A demonstratable understanding of Te Ao Māori and tikanga as it relates to heath research and practice.

•  Solid understanding and comprehension of Te Reo Māori.

•  Literacy in te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori health advancement guidelines and Vision Mātauranga policy.

•  Existing stakeholder networks and track record of developing new stakeholder relationships in sectors of relevance to the platform.

•  Proven relationship building and management skills with proficiency in cultural protocols.

•  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

•  Existing networks with Pacific Peoples organisations and communities

•  5+ years’ experience in the New Zealand research, science & technology and/or health and/or community sectors.

There is extensive amount of travel required for this position.
