Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Public Health Education in the College of Health and Sciences offers professional preparation leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to course work, the health education major is required to complete at least 8 weeks in an approved setting to complete a public health education internship.
Primary Purpose of Position
The successful candidate will support the department’s efforts to provide a quality instructional experience for undergraduate students. Primary teaching responsibilities include face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses in public health education, and other public health content.
This faculty member may also support our clinical field experiences. Research is not required, but individuals are encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities that may lead to scholarly activities, and professional presentations. Additional duties may include academic advising, student mentoring, university service, collaboration, accreditation related activities, promotion of the program and the university, and other duties as assigned by the department chair.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In addition to the technical public health knowledge and experiences, applicants must also have the ability to accomplish the following:
Work with undergraduate students to develop plans for academic improvement
Provide students with a recommended plan for academic improvement as needed
Follow-up with students to improve performance
Participate in regular faculty meetings
Maintain regular communication with students
Advise students on curriculum
Serve on department, college and university committees
Manage details and problem solve in a higher education environment
Minimum Education/Experience
Master’s Degree with at least 5 years teaching experience with diverse student population in both face to face and online settings.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
MCHES or CHES; CHES eligible preferred.

Function Instructional

This role requires demonstrated training, knowledge, higher level competencies, and experience in public health which may include public health education, health administration, and community health as an area of practice, and/or other related settings. It requires excellent organization, written and oral communication skills. Applicants must show evidence of the ability to transfer knowledge using multiple modalities including face to face and online. Applicants who have had some teaching experience at an institution of higher learning are preferred. Applicants must show evidence of extensive professional networks and activity in public health organizations and associations. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to addressing health disparities, and promoting health equity, social justice and inclusiveness in their work.
Successful candidate will be responsible for course delivery for 12 credit hours per semester.
