About the opportunity

The Northern Clinical School comprises a range of clinical teaching facilities spread over the whole of the northern area of Sydney and beyond.

The Bill Walsh Translational Cancer Research Laboratory is a joint venture of Northern Sydney Local Health District and University of Sydney located at Royal North Shore Hospital.

We are seeking to recruit for a Postdoc Research Associate, with advanced skills in quantitative methods and analyses with particular expertise in mass spectrometry-based assays such as proteomics, metabolomics and lipidomics. Actively contributing to research activities with particular focus on pancreatic cancer. Candidate will be involved in designing research protocols, undertaking core aspects of research work, and contributing to analysis and presentation of findings.

They will collate and record research data, draws insights and analyses, and reports information from the research undertaken. They will be expected to provide academic leadership to drive the development of a comprehensive cancer research program, conceives and executes different cancer research projects, providing oversight and mentorship to junior members of the team, contributes to a performance culture within the cancer research group, striving for success in competitive funding and publications.

Note: Hybrid-Flexible working prospects can be further discussed with your manager based on the requirements of the role, if you are successful for the role.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct research related to the project, independently and as part of a team
  • publish research papers and other research outputs
  • present results in conferences and scientific events
  • organize and contribute to project-related team meetings, workshops, public events, and training sessions
  • support the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • write and submit research grant proposals
  • aid in consenting and biobanking of specimens from cancer patients.

About you

  • a PhD in Medical Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, or other related discipline
  • demonstrated skills in mass spectrometry based assays
  • demonstrated skills in data management of large patient cohorts
  • experience in academic publications and writing funding grants for research
  • desired skills in applying advanced statistical analysis methods (e.g., multivariate modelling), and other relevant software packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS or equivalent).

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
