Seeking Academic EMS faculty at Yale Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine is seeking faculty interested in joining our Section of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in our nationally leading Department of Academic Emergency Medicine. The position is at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, rank and track commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Yale’s Section of EMS

The EMS section is made up of EMS-board certified physicians and oversees Yale’s Center for EMS. EMS faculty provide medical direction for 27 EMS agencies including a broad range of fire services and commercial agencies in the areas surrounding Yale New Haven Hospital. The section also oversees an ACGME-accredited EMS fellowship with two fellowship slots per year as well as 5 paramedic programs per year, 7 EMT programs, bridge, and other hybrid EMS programs, and AHA courses that reach more than 7000 learners per year. Faculty also staff the SHARP team, which is the only pre-hospital physician response team in the state of Connecticut. The SHARP team operates two emergency vehicles and is activated for mass casualty incidents, difficult extrications, and other complex pre-hospital scenarios. Department faculty also provide medical direction and leadership to the Yale New Haven Health system helicopter and ground critical care transport programs. EMS faculty are actively involved in statewide EMS protocols and oversight.

About Yale Emergency Medicine

Yale Emergency Medicine staffs the three campuses of Yale New Haven Hospital with a total patient volume exceeding 180,000 visits per year. It is home to a four-year EM residency of nearly 80 residents, a PA advanced training program, a health system simulation program housed in the Department of EM, and numerous fellowship programs. Clinical opportunities include a range of acuity from our primary academic campus, a Level 1 trauma and comprehensive stroke care center, to community and freestanding EDs as well as the opportunity to care for a range of clinical acuity from critical care to observation medicine. The department has been ranked first by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research for NIH funding in emergency medicine since 2021 and is currently home to 10 of the top 100 funded investigators in emergency medicine. The research portfolio of the department is broad and well diversified including focus areas in addiction medicine, geriatrics, implementation science, clinical informatics, health services research, critical care clinical trials, and health equity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Board certification/eligibility in EMS and Emergency Medicine. Experience with EMS medical direction and oversight.

Preferred: Experience with EMS-related research, faculty mentorship, community paramedicine and/or mobile integrated health
