About the Role

Research Security Advisor (Defence) supports the University’s Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) by developing compliance tools, providing security guidance, and conducting risk assessments. They help the research community understand DISP obligations, develop security systems, and contribute to policy interpretation. The role involves collaboration with other security functions to enhance the University's overall security posture.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Supporting the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and interpret strategic direction into policy options and develop implementation solutions for decision-making. 
  • Undertaking continuous environmental awareness to pro-actively monitor defence sector legislative and regulative change, including any relevant changes in the USA and UK impacting AUKUS. 
  • Ensuring the security of sensitive materials, maintaining the Designated Security Assessed Position (DSAP) list, managing personnel security clearances and conducting annual assurance activities. 

Who we are looking for

You will excel in stakeholder management with outstanding written and verbal communication skills and be adept at negotiating and working with academics. You will be capable of developing and delivering education and training materials, interpreting complex technical and policy information, and providing clear advice to diverse stakeholders. You will also manage competing priorities effectively and collaborate across teams to achieve successful outcomes. 

You will also have: 

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or relevant training and experience. 
  • Experience in a national security-related or compliance role in a university, industry or defence context. 
  • Department of Defence Security Officer certification and experience with the Defence Industry Security Program

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
