Assistant Director of Student Engagement

Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement serves to create a vibrant, inclusive campus life by implementing diverse, engaging programs and supporting student organizations. The Assistant Director advises the Campus Activities Board as well as playing a collaborative role with the other staff in the office to provide support to all clubs and organizations in their development, leadership training, and general program support. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for Student Leadership programming and development.
  • Oversight and programming related to LGBTQIA initiatives.
  • Organize the Annual Student Leadership Institute (logistical details, marketing, planning, recruitment of facilitators/presenters and assessments).
  • Responsible for providing administrative support, advisement, and development of programming for Recognized Student Organizations (RSO).
  • Co-Advise the Campus Activities Board.
  • Responsible for the development of assessment and evaluation tools related to Recognized Student Organizations.
  • Responsible for enforcing all University and Campus Life policies, rules, expectations, and guidelines as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrated experience advising undergraduate and graduate students clubs, organizations and leadership development.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Supervise Late Nights and Weekend programming.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with various levels of university constituents.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, master's degree in student personnel, student development, or related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience in student activities, college union, or related area is preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proven competence in leadership and supervision of students and staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communication strategies and work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
  • A high degree of organization, ability to engage in various tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend activities.

Physical Demands:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
