Here’s how you will support our mission

The Assistant Director for Student Activities at Columbia Basin College plays a vital role in advancing the institution’s mission, vision, and values by spearheading a comprehensive student-centered activities program. Collaborating closely with the Director for Student Activities and ASCBC, the Assistant Director provides leadership support to student clubs and advisors, nurturing student leaders, and fostering an inclusive campus community. Through overseeing club activities, managing budgets, and promoting diversity and inclusion, the Assistant Director embodies core values such as teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. By creating engaging opportunities for student involvement and development, this position contributes directly to the college’s commitment to academic excellence, student success, and lifelong learning.

This position reports to the Director for Student Activities.

The salary range for this position is $63,146 - $69,801.

This position is receiving applications until January 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST. The College will conduct on-campus interviews with selected candidates.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive training, mentorship, and guidance to student leadership, clubs, and organizations on CBC policies, procedures, and event logistics;
  • Support the Director for Student Activities in the management of club operations, including assisting with approval processes, timelines, and resource coordination; assume operational oversight as needed in the Director’s absence, with final decisions reviewed by the Director;
  • Collaborate with the ASCBC student leadership team and Director for Student Activities in planning, training, and supervising Club Council meetings and ASCBC initiatives;
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate student programs, events, and activities including after-hours, weekend, and distance learning opportunities;
  • Build and maintain partnerships with vendors and entertainment agencies for event programming and talent contracting;
  • Design and manage student volunteer systems to engage participants in the planning and execution of ASCBC events;
  • Support the Director for Student Activities in the supervision of the student employee(s) in the Hawk Union Building, including assisting with hiring, training, scheduling, payroll coordination, and compliance activities; provide continuity of supervision in the Director’s absence, with final decisions reviewed by the Director;
  • Manage travel logistics and supervision for teams attending conferences, regional/national meetings, and off-campus activities;
  • Monitor budgets for Student Activities, student organizations, and leadership programs, ensuring fiscal accountability and proper documentation;
  • Support major institutional programs such as commencement and the Higashi Nippon International University Exchange, and assist in the daily operations of campus facilities including the Hawk Union Building, Pavilion, and Gjerde Center; and
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • One (1) year experience of budget oversight and financial management;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs; and
  • Have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license, clean driving history and ability to be insured.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a student body in the planning, management, or support of extracurricular activities and student clubs.

Leadership: Lead through influence, rather than authority, and take ownership and accountability for the area of responsibility and decisions made. Demonstrate confidence within area of expertise – promote a cooperative work environment. Ability to appropriately apply leadership techniques to motivate, develop and guide employees; and

Strategic Planning: Proficiency in developing and executing strategic plans aligned with the mission and goals of the community college, driving innovation and growth across various departments.

Terms of Employment

Columbia Basin College is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas (e.g., H-1B) at this time. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

This is a full-time, overtime-eligible, administrative staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required.
