Teaching Faculty Position in Instructional Arabic, Open Rank
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites applications for two open-rank teaching faculty positions in Instructional Arabic. The successful candidate will hold an M.A. or Ph.D. in language instruction, linguistics, or applied linguistics. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in teaching Arabic at all levels, including experience working with heritage language learners. They will also have a record of effective instruction in skill-based courses (e.g., Business Arabic, Academic Writing) and in leading co-curricular and experiential learning activities that support Arabic language development. The expected start date of the position is August 2026.
GU-Q offers a rich academic setting supported by strong institutional resources to enable excellence in teaching and research. Teaching Faculty teach three courses (or 9 credit hours) per semester (a 3-3 load), supported by best-in-class instructional infrastructure. This includes the Global Classroom, which connects students in Doha with peers in Washington, D.C., for live, cross-campus engagement, and access to collaborative research centers such as the Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS).
To advance faculty scholarship and professional development, GU-Q provides access to GU-Q faculty research funds, eligibility for funding through the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI), an annual summer research stipend up to 2/9 of base salary, and generous conference travel funding and professional development resources.
Compensation and benefits include a highly competitive package by U.S. academic standards, along with fully furnished housing, transportation allowance, annual family home leave, worldwide health insurance, private school tuition support, and relocation assistance.
