The School of Geography & Environmental Science at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a full time Teaching Fellow in Human Geography for a fixed term contract from 01/09/26 to 22/01/27. The successful applicant will cover Semester 1 education responsibilities for Professor Nick Clarke and will be involved in delivering undergraduate teaching and assessment on our BA Geography and BA Human Geography programmes, supporting and mentoring taught students, as well as contributing to the smooth running of the School. The appointment will be made at Level 4, Spine Point 31. There is the opportunity for hybrid working, but most teaching will in-person on the University’s Highfield campus.

If appointed, you will be responsible for delivering taught content on a range of modules and marking student work. We are seeking someone able to contribute to GGES1008 (A Global World), GGES1013 (Principles of Geography), and GGES2018 (Urban Geography). In addition to module level teaching, you will also be providing academic support for students, and potentially supervising and/or marking undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation projects. There is scope in this post for contributing to novel and new methods in teaching and learning, and the school actively supports delivery of innovative teaching methods and approaches. You will also be responsible for defined administrative role(s) appropriate to your experience and expertise.

Experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching is essential; formal training in or recognition of teaching proficiency is desirable. The School and University offers mentorship support and a variety of opportunities for skill-building and professional development. We welcome applications from scholars with an active interest in, and/or previous experience with, de-colonising curricula.

If successful, you will join the School’s Economy, Society, and Governance research group. You will have the opportunity to develop networks with colleagues in the School and across the wider University community, which may be of benefit for future research collaborations.

The School is committed to fostering a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. The School is committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offers a range of family friendly policies, flexi-time, and flexible working. We are a Disability Confident employer and the School holds a bronze Athena SWAN award.

Informal enquiries may be made to Nick Clarke (n.clarke@soton.ac.uk), Jen Dickinson (Director of Programmes, j.dickinson@soton.ac.uk), or Rishika Mukhopadhyay (BA Geography and BA Human Geography Programme Leader, r.mukhopadhyay@soton.ac.uk).
