CENTRE FOR EARLY LEARNING IN MEDICINE (CELM) | TE POKAPŪ AUROROTANGA

FACULTY OF MEDICINE – DUNEDIN | TE KAUPEKA WHAIORA

Help shape the next generation of doctors in a supportive, collegial environment grounded in holistic models of care.

We are welcoming Expressions of Interest from those wanting to contribute to training the next generation of medical professionals.

Why join us? | He aha ai mātou?

At Te Pokapū Aurorotanga / CELM, you’ll play a key role in teaching second- and third year medical students at a critical point in their learning journey. You’ll join a collaborative team from the Faculty of Medicine – Dunedin and the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, working together to deliver the Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) curriculum.

Our programme blends science, clinical experience, and hauora-based frameworks (Te Whare Tapa Whā, Fonofale, biopsychosocial models) to prepare future clinicians for safe, compassionate, and culturally grounded practice.

These roles are ideal for health professionals or biomedical scientists who want to contribute to medical education, enjoy small-group teaching, and value flexibility.

About the programme | Mō te hōtaka

The ELM curriculum includes three key modules taught mainly in small-group settings (11–24 students):

Clinical Skills

Teach core clinical skills—history taking, physical examination, reasoning—with support from simulated and community volunteer patients. Ideal for medically qualified tutors who enjoy hands-on teaching.

Early Professional Experience (EPE)

Guide students as they engage with patients and health professionals across real-world settings. Facilitate structured discussions to help students understand social, clinical, and professional issues that bridge theory and practice.

Integrated Cases

Lead case-based learning that integrates content across all ELM modules. Designed for active, task-based learning; suitable for clinicians or educators with strong facilitation skills.

Applicants may teach into one or multiple modules depending on experience.
