The Opportunity

Join us in shaping the future of UniSC students by providing expert guidance in designing and implementing quality programs and strategies tailored to their diverse career development needs. You'll focus on preventative and early intervention strategies that empower students to achieve positive educational and lifelong learning outcomes. A key aspect of this role is fostering resilience and personal skill development to boost employment success for UniSC graduates. You will

  • provide professional expertise and a high standard and equitable career guidance service for potential students, current students and UniSC graduates to assist in positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes and enhanced employability skills. The Careers Adviser’s role extends career development learning support to students through one-to-one appointments, workshops and resource development; and
  • work in partnership with academics and industry partners for delivery of career development learning activities embedded in and alongside the curriculum.

About you

You possess advanced interpersonal and communication skills, along with a deep understanding of the higher education system and the diverse career development experiences of student cohorts. Your expertise in labour market information enables you to effectively support career planning and learning activities. Additionally, you bring proven experience in engaging with external stakeholders and organising events, making you well-equipped to contribute to or lead careers and industry events.

You will possess:

  • education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a degree with experience providing career guidance within a higher education environment;
  • demonstrated application of Career Development Learning principles in alignment with the competencies outlined in the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners in providing one to one advice and guidance, developing engaging resources and workshops;
  • an ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams (for example Student Wellbeing, AccessAbility and Student Success services) using a case managed approach to support individuals; and
  • currently possess or working towards a CICA approved qualification in Career Development, or eligibility for membership with professional associations (e.g. NAGCAS or CDAA).
