Team Leader, Learner Wellbeing Case Management

  • Full-time, ongoing position, Hawthorn
  • HEW Level 8 + 17% super and attractive staff benefits

About the Role

Lead a service that makes a real difference. Shape the future of learner wellbeing at Swinburne.

Swinburne University is seeking an experienced and forward thinking Team Leader, Learner Wellbeing Case Management to build and lead a new team dedicated to supporting students facing complex wellbeing challenges, including those who have made a disclosure of harm or have been named in a report. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the triage and management of high-risk and sensitive cases, ensuring learners receive timely, compassionate and coordinated support.

As a trusted escalation point and mentor, you’ll guide a team of Case Advisors, champion best-practice approaches, and drive continuous improvement across our wellbeing services. You’ll collaborate with a wide network of internal and external partners (including working closely with Safer Community staff responsible for investigating concerning student behaviour), strengthen wrap-around support pathways, and contribute to institution-wide prevention and response initiatives aligned with key legislation and national standards.

This is a newly created leadership role, established as part of Swinburne’s continued investment in learner wellbeing. The initial phase of the role will focus on establishing the learner wellbeing case management stream, including designing processes, defining practice frameworks, and embedding consistent, trauma-informed approaches. As the service matures, the role will play a key part in shaping and growing the team, including the recruitment and development of Learner Wellbeing Case Advisors.

If you thrive in dynamic environments, excel in leading people, and are passionate about creating safe, inclusive and supportive experiences for learners, this is your opportunity to shape a growing service that has meaningful impact across the university community.

About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in case management, including managing complex wellbeing issues in a large organisation or for a diverse client base.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising staff and allocating workload and/or caseload.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop pragmatic, inclusive solutions.
  • High-level organisational and record-keeping skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and privacy principles.
  • Ability to analyse data and identify trends to inform service improvements and prevention strategies.

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in case management, social work, psychology, counselling, or related discipline. (Essential)
  • Registration and membership to applicable professional bodies, e.g., Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Asia Pacific Association of Threat Assessment Professional (APATAP), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), etc. (Preferable)

What We Offer You!

  • Work your way with flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options and generous parental leave to support a balanced lifestyle.
  • Exclusive staff discounts, including discounted Medibank health insurance, 50% off Swinburne courses and other partner offers.
